Accommodation Description | |
Description : | A private villa in a quiet location on a plateau overlooking the Caribbean Sea. A private path leads to a secluded beach at the mouth of the Macoucherie River, with the options of both sea & freshwater bathing. Also great snorkelling. A 5 minute walk north takes you to Salisbury Beach which has a Dive Centre. The nearby Macoucherie rum distillery makes Dominica's finest rums. This is a good central location for exploring the entire island by vehicle rental, which we can arrange for you to collect at the airport on arrival in Dominica. Driving is on the left, as in UK. Much of Dominica is cloaked in primordial rainforest, veined with 365 rivers. Waterfalls are in abundance and there are several lakes, including the world's second largest boiling lake. River bathing is a wonderful experience. We also have several hot mineral spas. The Waitikubuli Hiking Trail is divided into 14 sections for 2 weeks of exercise for the fit. There are several national parks and two of our mountains are approaching 5,000 ft in height. For birders, we boast almost 180 species including two parrots unique to Dominica - our bird expert lives in the next village north. We can arrange a day out with him to include a traditionally prepared lunch. Whale and dolphin boat outings may also be arranged. There are two marine reserves and a third one is planned at this locality. At Cabrits National Park (a peninsular) in the north is the historic Fort Shirley which has been mostly restored under the watchful eye of historian Lennox Honychurch. |
