The house is simply furnished in a rustic fashion befitting an old farmhouse, it is not fancy and the price reflects this. this property should appeal to those who are on a budget and therefore willing forego having amenities in lieu of beautiful surroundings, peace and quiet. There are two large bedrooms with queen size beds, writing desk, and wardrobes; a kitchen/living area, bathroom, and laundry room. The house is equipped with anything you might need to live and be self sufficient. It has a stereo, VCR, satellite TV, phone and central heat. there is also a fireplace. As the house dates back hundreds of years and was at one point used as a granary, there are no stairs to the upstairs bedroom, but rather the original wide plank ladder. A young Italian couple look after the property. They come periodically to cut grass and do basic upkeep as well. The house sits on 7 acres of land with a vineyard, fruit trees, and has a beautiful view of the medieval town of Lippiano with its castle and churches. Lippiano is a town of only about 150 inhabitants and consists of only a post office and the town bar (You can find it on a Michelin map of central Italy) where the locals couldn’t be nicer and the town, untouched by tourism, has remained unchanged. It is near all of the important historical cities while remaining off the beaten path. “Chiarella” is 1.5 hrs. from Florence.
Arezzo, Cortona, Perugia, and Siena, are all less than a hour away. There are five absolutely beautiful medieval towns that are 15 minutes or less from the house with spectacular views of the Tiber valley. Monterchi is only five minutes away and there you will find the museum which houses Piero della Francesca’s famous painting “The Pregnant Madonna”. There are also a variety of stores and two restaurants. Marcello and Marcella run the local grocery store where you will find anything from notebooks to Marcello’s home made sausages. For more extensive shopping Sansepolcro is only 20 minutes away. Sansepolcro is a lovely little town, again unspoiled by tourism, and is famous as the birthplace of Piero della Francesca. There is a museum which houses some of his paintings, as well as sophisticated shops, bottegas, and restaurants. If you are interested in train travel, you can catch a train to just about anywhere in Italy from Arezzo, which is 20 min. away, Rome is 1.5 hours on the fast train.
