Description : | The Homestead is a 24 roomed 3 star Guest Lodge in the Drakensberg based on an English Country Inn. It has standard en-suite bedrooms and family units (two bedrooms with one bathroom), as well as air-conditioned de-luxe rooms. The Executive suite with its Four Poster bed, spa bath for two and double shower is also suitable for a Honeymoon couple. A Conference facility with accommodation is also available should people want to break free to somewhere to concentrate, plan, team-build, brain-storm or just build friendships and relax in tranquil surroundings. A well appointed Gazebo and dining room provides for a perfect setting for weddings of +/-120 people. A fixed menu, buffet style family meal is served in the cosy dining room, special meals being served by prior arrangement. Many a pleasant evening has been spent in the small bar ‘the Tam o’ Shanter’, with its definitely Scottish atmosphere. Other features now are a Games room with Darts, a pool table and a skittle Alley and also a Gym with a Sauna, for the more energetic. Visitors to ‘The Homestead’ and this area of the Drakensberg can find entertainment for the whole family, having the choice of many places to hike, game view, play golf or participate in many action adventures such as 4 X 4 routes,quad biking,off road motor bikes and mountain biking. Geluksburg is centrally placed for excursions to the historic Anglo Boer War Battlefields of Ladysmith, Spioenkop and Colenso. As well as Spioenkop Nature Reserve. the Royal Natal National Park and Amphitheatre, Cathedral Peak and Didima Valley, Champagne Castle valley, Injisuthi valley and our very own Tintwa and Middledale Pass valley. Qwaggashoek Game ranch is nearby +/- 16 kms, where you can go on 4 x 4 Game Dives at a very reasonable rate to see Rhinos(balck and white), Giraffe, Zebra, Hippos, Buffalo, Wilderbeest warthog running by and much more.This is an area where you can go Quad biking, take 4 x 4 drives and do mountain biking. All these areas are unique and very beautiful,with stunning scenic views and energetic or relaxing mountain walks. |

Climbing the Chain Ladder at the front of the Sentinel. When entering the R.N.N.P.if you go to the Thatched Information office register your intended walk and they will give you information on many more walks there. Cannibal Caves by the Cavern Hotel Cathedral Peak and Didima area. Cathedral Peak,Rainbow Gorge and Doreen Falls. Call to register at the Cathedral Peak Hotel for these walks. Mike’s Pass – This is for 4 x 4 and 4 x 2 vehicles only, but wonderful scenery if you have a vehicle like that.ie Land Rover etc Monk’s Cowl – Champagne Valley area Sterkspruit Falls and Cathkin Peak Injusuthi Hikes at Injusuthi which include the San Battle cave with statues of the San and Bushmans Paintings. Museums Ladysmith Siege Museum,Spionkop Museum and Winterton Museum. Battlesites close-by suitable for day trips Historical and Cultural Tours can be arranged with qualified Tour Guides. Colenso Battle sites The site where Winston Churchill was captured Elandslaagte Battle site The British Military Cemetery Nickelsneck Battlefield Tjerenkhula Battlefield Other sites of Historical interest Garden of Rememberence Ghandi’s Statue in Ladysmith All Saints Church in Ladysmith which was built in 1899 and is in the shape of a cross. It is not only a wonderful piece of Architecture but has plaques naming the Regiments and men who fought in the Anglo-Boer war and lost their lives. Swartzkop Gun Run held during the month of February each year. Visit to the Statue of the Kaalvoet Vroue and Voortrekkers Pass. I mention this again as two of my guests visited this site and then travelled onto Dundee to the Museum there and found that stories on the plaque by Kerkenberg and the Kaalvoet vroue linked with the history in that area. |

Direction : | DIRECTIONS FROM JOHANNESBURG ----- The Homestead. We are situated in the village of Geluksburg,nr Bergville,at bottom of Middledale Pass. Please do not use GPS You would travel down the N3 as far as Harrismith.You take the road to Bethlehem at the far side of Harrismith.Travel +/-4 kms, You will see a sign for R74 to Bergville,Olivershoek Pass and Qwaqwa. WAY OVER OLIVERSHOEK PASS TO BERGVILLE Turn left to the pass and Bergville.Travel a further 8 kms then turn left to Olivershoek Pass and Bergville.This is the R74.You will pass Sterkfontein Dam and go down Olivershoek Pass,with its panoramic view of the Drakensberg and Woodstock Dam.Just before Bergville,+/- 50 metres you turn left onto the R616 to Ladysmith.You travel +/- 2 kilometres to the top of the first hill and turn left.ZERO YOUR ODOMETER HERE.You are now going to travel 26 kms.The first 6 kms are tar and the next 20 are gravel.When the road changes to tar again you are in the village of Geluksburg.You take the first left turn,travel +/- 400 metres and the Homestead is a large Elizabethan type building on your right. DIRECTIONS FROM DURBAN Travel up the N3 to 6 kms past the Estcourt Ultra City Petrol Stop.You will see a left turning to Bergville and Colenso,(exit 194)take this left turn and go to Bergville.The road is the R74.Travel straight through Winterton to Bergville.50 metres after Bergville you will see a RIGHT TURNING to Ladysmith,the R616.Turn right and travel +/- 2 kms to the top of the first hill then turn left and ZERO YOUR ODOMETER.Here you will see a sign for Geluksburg and The Homestead.You will travel over 6 kms of tar road and then the road becomes gravel for 20 kms.As you come into the village the road becomes tar again and yo turn first left,travel along this road for +/- 200 metres and The Homestead is a large Elizabethan type building on your right.(THIS IS THE BEST WAY) NO CREDIT CARD FACILITIES.PLEASE SETTLE ACCOUNT ON ARRIVAL.THANKYOU. Check ‘in’ time is 14.00 hours and Check out is 10.00 hours. Breakfast 8.00am to 9.00am Dinner at 7. 30 pm. PLEASE ADVISE OF ANY DIETARY RESTRICTIONS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. An occupier of any room or cottage shall not allow the generation of noise whatsoever kind within or outside their room or cottage which has the effect of disturbing any other occupier at ‘The Homestead’. Guests are responsible for all breakages,shortages or loss occurring during their stay to any linen,furniture,effects and fittings in their room/cottage or caused by them in and about ‘The Hometsead Guest lodge’. If self-catering please remember to bring all items for washing up.dishwashing liquid.dish clothes,A deposit of R200 is payable on arrival and is refundable less any cost of breakages. CANCELLATION POLICY A charge of R100 per room levied on cancellation,at all times. 25 % of total cost of stay is charged if cancelled 30 to 60 days before arrival date. 50 % of total cost of stay is charged if cancelled 15 to 30 days before arrival date. 100 % of total cost of stay is charged if cancelled 1 to 15 days before arrival date.
