Afton Thatch is a large, detached thatched holiday cottage located at the head of the River Yar, which extends from Yarmouth Harbour, one of England's most unspoilt seaside villages. It is available year round for weeks, short breaks and weekends.
In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the cottage, originally built in 1697, has recently been restored to a very high standard and has been awarded 4 stars by the British Tourist Authority. Tasteful and yet understated, this lovely cottage has been interior designed and features antiques, handmade and upholstered furniture throughout.
With oak beams, fireplaces and an eat-in kitchen, complete with aga, the cottage has an authentic style and atmosphere that is rare among rental properties.
The cottage has river views on one side and open fields on the other. It is in a tranquil location but within easy walking distance to the village of Old Freshwater, with its pub, The Red Lion, as well as the larger village of Freshwater with its food market.
A large and professionally landscaped garden offers an enclosed lawn, a summerhouse, containing table football, a small orchard with large rope hammock, and even a trampoline.
From the cottage one can walk to Afton and Tennyson downs. Compton Bay, a beautiful National Trust beach, is a short drive or bicycle ride away. |
